Welcome back and I’m so glad you’re OK!!

Please share more, I’ve read a lot about the new psychedelic therapies for nerve regeneration, would be interested to know how they work… it all sounds so strange 👀

Honestly certainly one of the strangest (yet profoundly beautiful and life changing) experiences you can have- as unlike other substances its not at all about "getting high", but about existing without your ego (and therefore realizing how much we limit ourselves). And yes, there's some fantastic research for nerve regeneration on it.

Totally strange, and weird, and I can't wait to talk more about it 👀

Plant medicine is probably the strangest thing you’ll ever encounter, as the trip is into your own subconscious. My aya experience was both the worst and the best

Expand full comment

yes, I would certainly describe my experiences as some of the best yet most challenging moments, as its undoubtedly hard to face your own mind

I’ve personally been fascinated by plant medicine, particularly ayahuasca, for years. Can’t wait to hear more!

Also your red velvet sourdough is unexpectedly one of the best things ever, can’t wait to try this one too

I've heard you guys praise that loaf so much this week– literal music to my ears, thanks for letting me know Meg 🫶

(p.s. I'm personally terrified of Aya)

The way I related to so much of this made me in absolute tears. I’m going on 7 years with my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome diagnosis and it’s been hell since day one. MCAS, Chiari Malformation, POTS, and pancreatitis has been my life for these 7 years and I’m tired. I spent the last month studying and growing my own little 🍄 tub and I’m getting ready to dive in and try and help myself since doctors have given up. Thank you for such a wonderful read and basically a sign saying I’m headed in the right direction.

Carly I'm so sorry you relate so much to my story (teary too tbh, I really felt your comment). I can only speak for myself, but I'm personally incredibly grateful to have gone down this route (and in the end it does make sense why they work, as research is showing that they're incredibly powerful nervous system regulators).

My best advice is to trust your body- it'll tell you what works.

p.s. if you haven't already also look up reishi as a balancing adaptogenic mushroom (and simple herbs such as chamomille)

Thank you so much, honestly as I laid here reading your original post still red in the face from crying over the day from being in so much pain, I felt a sense of calm reading your words. I will definitely be looking up reishi. I love chamomile, it’s a daily staple for me. I can’t wait to continue to read through your journey and learn from you, as well as see the magnificent sourdough loaves you make. Sourdough has also been my hobby along with my 🍄 It’s given me something to be proud of.

Oh, wow, I made this over the last week, and was thrilled with the results. The flavors! We had a homemade cultured cream cheese and some cherry jam with it, and my family was quite happy. I did use the Guiness, and love the depth it adds. I had one hiccup with my oven, but still ended up with a great loaf. It's good to have you healing and back, Paola, for this next leg of the adventure!

I just took mine out of the oven!(my bro-bro's birthday today!)

It's HUGE! When I poped the lid off at 30 minutes it was climbing out of the dutch oven!!🤣🎉

I'll let you know how it was received! My daughter is stoked to try it as well.

I did the whole 10 hour rise, then did a 6 hour stint in the fridge. Amazing! It was super easy to handle as well, I was expecting it to be unwieldy.

Great stuff as always!

Ohhh I'm excited to hear how it turned out!! And happy birthday to the bro 🎉

(p.s. just ensure it cools before digging in, I got lucky that I didn't wreck the crumb by digging into this one while still warm-ish... I waited about 40 minutes before cutting)

So great to see this post/recipe! My sister-in-law just gave me a gallon of fresh sour cherries, plus some cherry jam that she made. I am also glad to hear of the healing journey; our bodies are so complex and unique, our best friends and worst enemies. I had been hoping for good new adventures for you to unfold since your unhoming. After reading the post/recipe, I immediately pitted some cherries and popped them in my dehydrator, then added some items to my shopping list. I feel a loaf coming on, thanks Paola!
